Hundreds of Ukrainian-Americans gather every year at the Soyuzivka Heritage Center for the annual Suzy-Q Festival. This year was no different. As the official slogan reads, there’s no place like Soyuzivka, a Ukrainian oasis in upstate New York that’s modeled after the Carpathian Mountains. With lush greenery, beautiful views, and a massive pool, Soyuzivka is the perfect place to catch a breath of fresh air and peace. That is, until Suzy-Q weekend rolls around. This year on the weekend of July 10th, Ukrainians from all over the U.S. traveled to Soyuzivka for the live music, Ukrainian culture, and for the unique opportunity to be entirely surrounded by others just like you. Famous Ukrainian bands and artists, as well as numerous celebrities like Oksana Bilozir, Dzidzio, and Lama graced the weekend with their presence and performances. This year’s 9th annual festival was dedicated to “Solidarity with Ukraine.” Whether it’s a quiet visit at Soyuzivka, or a boisterous weekend with Suzy-Q, one thing’s for sure: there’s no better place to be a Ukrainian-American.  soy_02
